ADNOC and SPC Registration
Established in 1988 under Law No. (1), the Supreme Petroleum Council is the highest authority responsible for gas and petroleum affairs in Abu Dhabi. The governing body has been vested with the power to take decisions and formulate rules pertaining to the petroleum industry, in addition to thoroughly checking the implementation across all the areas of the industry by all the vendors to ensure that the set goals are achieved effectively and efficiently.
The Supreme Petroleum Council also assumes responsibility, as the Board of Directors for the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Petrol Department, which upholds the provision of Law No. (8) of 1978 regarding the conservation of the oil industry and ensures that all companies functioning in this sector abide by this law.
Supreme Petroleum Council (SPC) Approvals
An approval is given by the Supreme Petroleum Council, known as ‘Onshore and Offshore Oil & Gas Field & Facilities Services’ that features on the company’s Trade License. It is compulsory for all the companies working in the field of oil and petroleum to obtain this approval for smooth functioning. While no fee is charged by the Council for applications/approvals, Department of Economic Development (DED) fees will apply. This approval is required for all activities relating to oil and gas – be it drilling or construction, catering to trading and more.
The Supreme Petroleum Council (SPC) approval or the SPC registration is also necessary for acquiring permits from Critical Infrastructure and Coastal Protection Authorities (CICPA) to access the oil fields.
Members of the committee
The members of the company include UAE President Sheikh Khalifa, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and the Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. The director of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Abdulla Nasser al Suwaidi, also holds a prominent position in the company. Since the Council works as the Board of Directors for ADNOC, the two bodies have been closely related and work in coordination with each other ever since the passing of the law.
