JAFZA & its Recent Initiatives
Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA), the flagship free zone of DP World, has always been in the news for various reasons. This time the free zone has garnered attention with its decision to roll out a workforce protection programme, that intends to provide advanced benefits to its employees. JAFZA collaborates with Dubai Insurance Company to implement the same.
Employees of companies based in JAFZA, National Industries Park and Dubai Auto Zone, will benefit from the programme, which will be replacing the previous bank guarantee system. The system will ensure that the workers are provided with insurance coverage, which will protect them even if there has been wage default by employers.
The sponsored employees of JAFZA will come under the programme once their visa renewal process happens and in the case of new employees, this will be applied by default while getting their work visas.
According to Mohammed Al Muallem, CEO and managing director of DP World – UAE Region and CEO of JAFZA, “We’re pleased that with our partners, Dubai Insurance Company, we have put together the Workforce Protection Programme that’s ready to serve the hard-working employees of companies that operate in DP World, UAE Region’s Parks & Zones. Our people are our greatest assets, and we are committed to providing them with a fair work environment that ensures they receive all the rights, privileges, and protections that should be afforded to them as core contributors to the nation’s economy.”
Earlier, JAFZA had announced about bringing 5G technology to its customers, in collaboration with Etisalat. The initiative will bring about many changes in the functioning of companies in the free zone.
JAFZA has always been at the forefront when it comes to embracing frontier technologies that enables smart-trade capabilities across business portfolio.
JAFZA acts as an effectual hub for manufacturing, trading, and import/ export operations and is the most preferred free zone for many. There has been a series of partnerships involving JAFZA in the last couple of months, that has helped in elevating the free zone’s position. Its collaboration with DMCC is one such initiative.
DMCC and DP World entered into an agreement recently to bring warehousing and logistics solutions to member companies registered in the DMCC Free Zone, through JAFZA. This will enable DMCC member companies to make use of JAFZA’s state-of-the-art warehousing and logistical services without any extra charge.
JAFZA intends to boost the economy of the country by developing favourable conditions for investors and has been successful so far.
